Throughout a 25-year career in hospitality, exercise and sport was always an important part of my life – in fact I would say they served as a great counter balance to a career in hospo. As well as consistently training in the gym and playing sports, I took time away from hospitality to study Exercise Science at Massey University, and also enjoyed the opportunity to work at Les Mills as a Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer.
In 2019 I was introduced to the world of CrossFit and soon realised what I had been missing out on in my training over the past 20 years – and in particular learning that the benefits of CrossFit go well beyond just an hour of exercise. With my partner in crime, spouse and fellow CrossFitter Claire, we set a goal to open our own box in NZ by the end of 2022. Thankfully the opportunity came our way and our dream to bring CrossFit Affinity to the Beachlands community became a reality.
Why I coach
When I reflect back on the past 25 years in hospitality I recognise the two things I loved the most were the people I was fortunate enough to meet and work alongside, coupled with the opportunity to coach them throughout the various stages of their careers. Combining this with my love for exercise and fitness just seemed like the perfect fit. My passion is to change people’s lives through CrossFit, helping people overcome challenges they didn’t think were possible, aiding them in reaching their goals, and just helping them be healthier overall.
